History of industrial design – Soviet faceted glass

Hello, let’s talk a little about the history of industrial design.

I was born in the Soviet Union. Many of you, reading these lines about the “red empire”, will have the association with Kalashnikov rifles, bears walking in the streets, and vodka. But this time I would like to talk about one household item without which any Soviet Union’s kitchen or catering establishment cannot be imagined – it is a faceted glass.

Glass and Concrete by Ben Young

Ben Young is a sculptural glass and concrete artist based in New Zealand. His work has been exhibited worldwide and is housed in numerous private collections around the world. Inspired by the ocean and man’s relationship with our natural landscape; Young’s sculptural works are both mesmerising and serene with a sense of solitude intended in each piece.

These limited edition prints were created as a way of making his work more accessible to people who want a little slice of their favourite piece within their home.
